Skincare for Dry and Dehydrated Skin

If your face feels tight after cleansing, looks flaky around the nose or dull by mid-afternoon, or makeup clings to dry patches, your skin is probably short on water, oil, or both.

This page explains what is going on in plain words and shows a simple routine built around hydration and barrier support.

Why skin gets dry or dehydrated

Dry skin makes less of its own oil. Dehydrated skin is short on water, and any skin type can be dehydrated, including oily skin.

Both get worse when the skin barrier, the outer layer that holds moisture in, is under stress. Common triggers are cold or dry air, indoor heating, hot showers, harsh cleansers and over-exfoliating.

The fix is usually not one product. It is a gentle routine that adds water (humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin), supports the barrier (ingredients such as niacinamide and ceramides) and seals moisture in.

Products we recommend for dry skin

Reiland Skin Barrier Drops – $40.00

A lightweight, milky serum with niacinamide, ectoin and jojoba milk, made to support the skin barrier and help skin hold on to moisture. Use 2–3 drops morning and evening before moisturizer.

Reiland HydraLift Firming Serum – $77.00

A dermatologist-developed hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid and snow mushroom extract, which help attract and hold moisture. Good for skin that feels tight or looks dull from dehydration.

Reiland Advanced Skin Restore Moisturizer – $69.95

A lightweight daily moisturizer with ceramides, postbiotics and antioxidants that helps support the moisture barrier without a greasy feel. Use it morning and evening as your last step before sunscreen.

Reiland Vital C Hydrating Mist – $36.00

A facial mist with a stable vitamin C derivative and red algae extract for a quick hit of hydration during the day, even over makeup. It contains geranium and lavender, so skip it if those bother your skin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

Dry skin makes less natural oil, while dehydrated skin is low on water. Any skin type can be dehydrated. Dry skin usually needs richer barrier support, and dehydrated skin needs water-binding ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Many people need both.

What ingredients help dry, tight skin?

Look for humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin to add water, and barrier-support ingredients such as niacinamide and ceramides to help skin hold that water. A moisturizer on top helps seal it in.

Should I use a serum and a moisturizer for dry skin?

Yes, for most people. A hydrating serum adds water-binding ingredients, and a moisturizer helps keep that moisture from escaping. Apply the serum first, then the moisturizer, then sunscreen in the morning.

Can I exfoliate dry skin?

Gently and not too often. Over-exfoliating can stress the skin barrier and make dryness worse. Once or twice a week is plenty for most dry skin, and skip it when your skin feels raw or tight.

How long does it take to see a difference?

Skin often feels more comfortable soon after applying hydrating products. Changes in texture and how skin looks build gradually with consistent daily use, and results vary from person to person.
